Description
Antique James Dixon & Sons Sheffield Brides Basket the edge has a Greek Key design and the interior of the basket Ornate Scrolls. The handle has a beautiful beading as well as the base and in the center of the handle is a Cartouche that hasn’t been monogramed. It’s a large beautiful brides basket with the James Dixson & Sons Sheffield Emblem on the underside also J D & S pns (Plated Nickel Silver
, an alloy metal base with a thin coating of silver applied)
and the number 1467. This mark was first used in 1835.
James Dixon & Sons
founded 1806 in Sheffield, was one of the major British manufacturers in the Industrial Revolution of the 19th century. The Brides Basket is perfect as a beautiful Center Piece filled with fruits, flowers, delicacies or on display by itself. The condition is very good with only a small area in the center of the bowl having lost a bit of silver as shown in pictures the rest of the Basket is in superb condition bright and shiny dating from Circa 1835 with the following measurements: 13” Wide x 9 ¾” Depth x 4 ½” High and 11 ¼” High to Handle.
